Description Newton Room

Newton Rooms lay the foundation for students to experience a rich learning environment and feeling of mastery within the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Our experience has shown that design, décor, and a good learning environment have a positive and motivating effect on students. Deliberate use of colour along with informative and attractive displays play an important role in making Newton Rooms an exciting learning arena. Sound and lighting also contribute to a dynamic and inspiring session.

Newton Room requirements

A Newton Room can vary in size. However, we recommend a room with an area of 150 – 220 m² to present the full spectrum of Newton modules and accommodate classes of up to 30 pupils. Newton rooms should have an entrance or welcome area, a bathroom in close proximity, and a place where the students can eat lunch. A workspace for the Newton teacher might be necessary. In addition, a small storage room is required, either in the Newton Room or in close proximity.

The overall standard of the room should conform to that of other educational facilities or office spaces when it comes to ventilation and the quality of wall, ceiling, and floor surfaces. We also recommend access to two or three 16A-circuit breakers. Water should be accessible in the Newton Room or rooms nearby.

Newton Room design and layout

The Newton Room is designed to facilitate variation in methods and type of activity. The Newton teacher uses the lecture area to lay out the tasks and establish a relationship  between teacher and students. The students have access to workstations for working in groups, a laboratory with access to water, and also open floor space that makes it possible to work with activities that demand more space.

The students need to move easily between the lecture area, the workstations, the laboratory, and the open floor, and the Newton teacher needs the best possible overview. This means that the various areas in the room should be in close proximity to each other, giving the teacher an effortless view of all the students.

Several alternative layouts are available, so if it is not possible to establish a Newton Room with the above specifications, a custom-made plan will be provided.
