Boeing and FIRST Scandinavia launch the Newton learning experience in Lugo, Galicia

In cooperation with Boeing, the mobile classrooms will introduce the Newton concept to students, teachers and educational authorities in Europe. Newton is active STEM education that focuses on learning through practical and exploratory activities. Spain is the first country where the concept has been presented. The Newton classroom will subsequently travel to Poland, The Netherlands and Germany. 

The classroom consists of two containers, each expanding to 35m2 to create a 70m2 classroom. The classroom has a laboratory, workstations and an amphitheater, quality assured by educational specialists. The Mobile Newton Room will provide visitors with a taste of the STEM-education normally conducted in permanent Newton Rooms.

Since 2013, Boeing and FIRST Scandinavia have partnered on different projects, among others the establishment of the Newton Flight Academy in Bodø, Norway. In June 2018, FIRST Scandinavia was chosen as Boeing’s official STEM partner, and the Newton concept is being introduced in nine European countries through mobile solutions and permanent venues.

Local school-classes in Lugo will be able to visit the Mobile Newton Room for three weeks and experience a demo-version of the educational program “Up in the air with numbers”. During the half-day program, students will learn about mathematical concepts through an aviation focus. The activities include creating a flight plan and flying in simulators. The initiative is led locally by the Xunta de Galicia (Galician regional government) and the Concello de Lugo (Lugo Municipality).
