Newton Europe – a strategic partnership with Boeing

14 sij 2019

The Boeing Company, a strategic partner of FIRST Scandinavia on the Newton concept since 2013, has invested $5M USD to bring Newton across Europe.
Boeing's multi-year investment will establish Newton Rooms in 9 countries including Germany, Netherlands, Poland, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Sweden.

"Newton's proven teaching methods and immersive, hands-on educational environments will help excite future innovators to pursue careers in STEM fields—many of which can be found at Boeing"; said Dennis Muilenburg, Boeing chairman, president, and CEO at the Farnborough Airshow in the UK in July 2018

The investment will fund several Newton Room concepts to deliver high-quality experiential STEM education to primary and secondary school students in Europe:
  • Boeing Newton Flight Academy: A permanent classroom used to teach students aviation-related STEM concepts, reinforced with full-motion flight simulators manufactured in Spain. See the first Newton Flight Academy at www.newtonflightacademy.com.
  • Boeing Newton Rooms: A themed, state-of-the-art permanent classroom focused on experiential learning. Themes include space, biofuels, and advanced materials and manufacturing.
  • Boeing Pop-up Newton Rooms: A portable package of flight simulator panels and classroom materials used to create a temporary Newton Room in virtually any suitable existing space.
  • Boeing Mobile Newton Rooms: An innovative classroom solution, made up by two expandable containers designed to fit on a ship, train or truck. The classroom can be set up anywhere in the world, providing 70m2 of high quality and inspiring STEM educational space.

Boeing’s investment also funded the expansion of the Newton team, leading to the establishment of our Newton Europe office, based in Berlin. From the German capital, our team is poised to spread the Newton concept across Europe, giving students a unique and exciting opportunity to get inspired by STEM topics.

Since 2013, Boeing has helped establish these three Newton concepts, with one of each in Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands. Non-profit organization FIRST Scandinavia successfully operates an additional 40 Newton Rooms in Norway.
