Looking to the sky with Planetarium Aragon

Since it opened on November 7th, 324 students from nine schools in Zaragoza (6), Huesca (2), and Teruel (1) have traveled up to 2 hours to be part of the exciting activities that took place in the Mobile Newton Room, which installed in front of Aragon’s planetarium in the Walqa Technological Park.

Yesterday, the mobile classroom was visited by representatives of the Government of Aragon, Boeing, and FIRST Scandinavia for an official opening ceremony.

It is expected that more than 500 students aged 14 to 16 will be able to enjoy this initiative before it packs up for the next location on November 25. During their visit, they will learn to use mathematics to calculate and carry out a rescue mission in flight simulators in the Newton Module “Up in the Air with Numbers”.

“We are proud that Spain is the first country in Europe where we have implemented three Newton experiences," says Angela Natale, Managing Director of Southern Europe for Boeing. 

The first mobile event happened in Lugo in 2019. The first permanent Newton Room in Spain, Newton Galicia, opened in Ourense in October 2021.

“Thanks to our collaboration with the Government of Aragon, and the support of FIRST Scandinavia, we are creating a revolutionary way of teaching STEM subjects. This demonstrates our strong commitment to Spain and its communities," she says.

Alysia Tofflemire, Newton's European Director, was particularly proud to be present at the third opening in Spain, “Our goal is to inspire children and youth around the world through the joy of STEM learning. It has been an absolute pleasure to collaborate with our partners in Aragon, who share our vision and passion. We hope the project will help connect Newton with the local community and spark a new love of learning in students in the region,” she says.
