In this module the learners will assist with observation of various locations in the Bodø area to help establish priorities for rescue missions.
The maximum number of pupils per session is 12.
The learners will plan their flight themselves and prepare for it, carrying out mathematical calculations using units, distance, speed, and time, as well as become confident navigators. They will work in pairs or crews and should carry out their mission by completing a flight in advanced flight simulators.
The module lasts approximately 3 hours and consists of the following activities:
- Introduction to the Newton Room and the topic of flight.
- Exploring Time & Distance - Pupils will convert time between hours, minutes and seconds and then use different scales to measure the distance between different points on a map.
- Creating a Flight Plan - Pupils will make their flight plan. This includes measuring distances, calculating time and setting the correct course.
- Flight Mission - Pupils will follow their flight plan to carry out an observation mission on a flight simulator.
Throughout this module the pupils will be encouraged to discuss and consider how the activities and skills used within this workshop are relevant to careers within the aviation industry.
