The newest Newton Flight Academy opens its doors in Istanbul

ISTANBUL, December 20, 2023: In a celebration on December 20th, FIRST Scandinavia, Boeing, Istanbul Grand Airport (IGA), and the Science Heroes Association marked the opening of the Newton Flight Academy at the IGA campus, strategically located near the bustling Istanbul Airport (IST).

The initiative builds upon the successful collaboration between FIRST Scandinavia, Science Heroes, and Boeing in Türkiye. In April 2022, these partners introduced a Mobile Newton Room, which has since been deployed in 3 locations around Istanbul. Science Heroes became the official Newton Operating Partner in Türkiye in October 2022. Looking ahead, the Mobile Newton Room is set to journey to other cities in Türkiye in 2024, complementing the launch of the Newton Flight Academy in Istanbul.

The Newton Flight Academy is a thoughtfully-designed classroom offering students immersive instruction in STEM concepts, with a unique focus on aerospace topics. The large classroom in Istanbul spans two floors and boasts three full-motion simulators, three smaller panel simulators, and a fully equipped laboratory and amphitheatre. This comprehensive setup enables the execution of any Newton Module, with the inaugural offering being the "Up in the Air with Numbers" module.

Per-Arild Konradsen, CEO and founder of FIRST Scandinavia expressed enthusiasm about the enduring collaboration between the project stakeholders. Reflecting on the success of the Mobile Newton Room in Türkiye, Konradsen stated, "We are delighted to announce the inauguration of the Newton Flight Academy, marking the highlight of a journey that started with a big idea 5 years ago. This milestone allows local students to immerse themselves in the Newton Concept in an exciting setting that will give them insight into future career possibilities."

The Newton Flight Academy in Istanbul is the fourth of its kind globally, following the establishment of academies in Bodø, Norway; Glasgow, United Kingdom; and Beijing, China.
