Staffing up in Berlin!

16 jun. 2021

Dr. Lindsey Hendricks-Franco joins the Newton Team as Education Manager for Newton Europe.

“I will collaborate with the First Scandinavia Education Team in Bodø to expand our international module library, develop exciting new content, and assist our new and existing Newton partners in choosing the right pedagogical model for them and their communities,” Lindsey says.

Three in the European team

The Newton Europe office is located in Berlin. There is Alysia Tofflemire, Director of European Operations, and Maggie Skjelbred, European Project Manager already in place. They welcome the growth of the team there.

STEM and pedagogy

Dr. Hendricks-Franco is an experienced STEM educator and research ecologist who is passionate about active science learning. She began teaching in 2009 as a high school science teacher with Teach For America (TFA), delivering practical and engaging lessons in high-risk urban public schools. Later she taught in a private high school in the USA and a bilingual public school in Madrid, Spain, giving her insight into a variety of educational cultures.

Most recently, she completed a PhD in Ecology at the University of California, Berkeley, studying plant and soil responses to wildfires. While at Berkeley, she taught courses in university science pedagogy and contributed to curriculum redesign projects, building a network of university Biology instructors across California.

“Lindsey’s mix of experience in STEM research and pedagogy leadership is perfect to help Newton Europe expand and adapt its practical teaching model to diverse international education systems,” says Alysia Tofflemire.
