Launching Global Newton Day and Newton Hub

08 May 2026

Newton is launching two new initiatives: a dedicated global celebration and a brand-new activity hub for the global network. The goal is to strengthen the sense of community, increase local visibility, and drive even more activity across all Newton Rooms.

After 25 years of delivering learning experiences, Newton is finally getting its own day. Global Newton Day is set to become an annual highlight, celebrating the impact of the network worldwide.

“The network itself asked for something to unite us across borders in a workshop in the Norwegian Newton Network Conference last year,” says Rigmor Angler, Concept Manager in Newton. “We thought it was a brilliant idea. Global Newton Day is about building pride and putting a spotlight on the incredible work happening in our rooms every single day.”

Your Room, Your Way

While 1 June is the official date, the celebration is a local, "low-threshold" event. Whether it’s a big community open day or a smaller classroom celebration, each room is free to tailor the day to their own local needs and partners.

“This day is made for, with, and by the network,” says Rigmor. “The most important thing isn't doing it the same way, it’s that every room finds its own way to mark the occasion.”

To make planning for the day easier, a dedicated toolkit called Global Newton Day has been launched in the Assets Library, with tips, communication tools, and, in true Newton style, an apple cake recipe to sweeten the celebrations.

One of the event activities is called “The Flight Challenge”. Here, participants take on the role of aircraft engineers and design and test their own paper wings in a 3D-printed aircraft fuselage.

Introducing: Newton Hub

Alongside the new celebration comes Newton Hub, a step in evolving the Newton Room into a local community asset.

The Newton Hub is a collection of activities designed for use outside of the standard school curriculum. The ambition is to turn every Newton Room into a STEM hub for its local area, hosting everything from holiday clubs and professional seminars and community meetings

The first "Event" activities are already live in the Resource Base in the Newton Portal. Specifically designed for meetings and visits, these activities are perfect for marking Global Newton Day.

“Our core mission is STEM education, but we want our Newton Rooms to be a resource for the entire community, both during and after school hours,” Rigmor concludes. “We’re excited to see Newton reach even more people.”
